Why Are Humans Evil?
We humans have a pretty bad history of inflicting pain and suffering onto each other. Racial discrimination global scale wars, terrorism, fighting over religion, etc. Adolf Hitler, who ordered the execution of some eight million people and was responsible for the death of many millions more was said by his secretary to have had an agreeable, friendly and paternal nature. He hated cruelty towards animals. He was vegetarian, adored his dog and was inconsolable when it died. So, how did Hitler in his mind justify his inexplicable actions in the case of the the Holocaust? For example the Germans were willing to exterminate millions of Jews in part because Nazi ideology taught them to think of Jews as subhumans as objects without the right to freedom dignity or even life itself.
We often look to young children to give us hope for humanity. They're seen as sweet and innocent ones who have yet to be corrupted by the grievances of adulthood. And yet many other studies show that very small children are capable of some less than appealing adult-like emotions.
It was very interesting when you talked about how people look to children to give us hope on humanity. Children are so pure and happy, and I wish these emotions continued on with people as they grow up. However, the world can be sad at times, such as the holocaust.
ReplyDeleteHi Wahida, Very interesting post. I Like the depth and the tough question you ask in this blog post as you go into deep detail on a topic I have not really seen talked about. As for the topic, the world will always be a dark place because we inhabit it, humans are flawed by nature and some humans seek nothing but darkness and destruction. Evil has a way of appearing desirable without us even realizing its evil, and it can come in many different forms, Keep being the best you you can be in this world, sometimes that is all we can do, great work.
